How did I get here? Why do this blog? Mainly because I want to share the joy. Back to “How did I get here?” . . .

Twelve years ago I was in a course given by Landmark Worldwide. After a long discussion about the nature of problems we were given an assignment —- Create a problem that gets you up in the morning. The idea being to create a problem that you can’t wait to work on. The problem I created for myself is having aging be a joy rather than a dilemma. I was 66.

The Joy of Aging became my raison d’etre. It shifted my whole perspective. Rather than be insulted because someone thought I was old and gave me their seat on the bus I acknowledged the person for being kind. Aging became an opportunity to see the good in people. As you will see in my blog I’ve had many opportunities to engage with and discover aging as a joy. I want to share that with you, no matter how old you are. And, I want to hear the joy you’ve found also.

In case you’re wondering about the name of this site it just came to me. I thought of cutsey names, serious names and everything in-between. Finally it hit me, I just arrived at this age. This is where life led me — thus the name Where Life Leads You.

I’m not talking about positivity. Many things have happened that were difficult to deal with —the death of my brother, my dog dying, my next dog having cancer and dying, major financial troubles, health issues. It’s not that I tried to make things better than they were. As I went through each of these I had to remember it wasn’t the end of the world. Life goes on. Life is a series of challenging circumstances. I have the choice to make these circumstances a reason to be upset or to have these circumstances be the next adventure in my life. I’m alive — I choose to enjoy life.

Even though I was writing posts over these past 12 years I couldn’t figure out how to get the blog to work. I really couldn’t afford a web designer and I couldn’t do it on my own. At a college Therapy Dog visit a few years ago a wonderful young woman, Jolie, was kind enough to volunteer her time and to reassure me that my idea for this blog could become a reality. Unfortunately I lost touch with Jolie during the pandemic. I hope she is well and will be acknowledged for her contribution to this blog.

Recently a special friend, Barbara, contributed the financial and loving support I needed to make this blog a reality. Many people have encouraged me over the years. It’s what kept me going. Thank you all!!!

Welcome to the JOY OF AGING!!!

It’s a fact, as you age your hearing diminishes. Why do we say it ain’t so? I remember in my late 60's not hearing what people were saying was a...
